Built to your space, not a stock size
Most homes don't have perfectly square walls or standard-width alcoves, which is exactly where flat-pack or big-box furniture falls short — a gap at one side, a piece that's too shallow or too deep for the space it's meant to fill. We measure your actual walls, floor and any obstructions (vents, outlets, uneven ceiling height) and build the piece to fit that space specifically, scribed in at install so it looks like it was always there.
Simple framework pieces — a window seat, open shelving, wainscoting — are often built directly on-site, since that lets us adjust for a wall that's slightly out of square as we go. Cabinetry with doors, drawers and a finished face is usually built in a controlled shop environment for a cleaner result, then delivered and installed with final scribing and trim on-site.

Materials and finish
Material choice depends on the piece and finish — plywood and MDF for painted built-ins, solid hardwood where it'll be stained or is a high-touch surface like a window seat edge or island top. We'll walk through the tradeoffs during the quote rather than defaulting to whatever's cheapest.

- How long does a built-in take from quote to install?
- Simple built-ins (a bookcase, a window seat) typically run 2-3 weeks from final measurements to install, mostly material lead time. Larger pieces like a kitchen island or a full wall of cabinetry run 4-6 weeks, since we build to your actual wall and floor dimensions rather than off a stock size.
- Do you build on-site or in a shop and install later?
- Both, depending on the piece. Simple frameworks and wainscoting are usually built on-site since real walls are rarely perfectly square. Cabinetry with doors, drawers and finished faces is often built off-site for a cleaner finish, then installed and scribed to fit your space.
- What's the difference between custom carpentry and buying flat-pack furniture?
- A built-in is fixed to your walls, floor to ceiling or wall to wall, and fitted to your exact dimensions — no gaps at the sides or top the way a freestanding stock piece would have. It also becomes a permanent fixture, which matters for resale and for maximizing an awkward or non-standard space that off-the-shelf furniture doesn't fit well.
